Alfresco and Acquia to form strategic partnership

Alfresco and Acquia announced today a strategic partnership to deliver business critical content applications to their customers. With this relationship, Acquia builds on Alfresco’s open platform to extend the web experience applications that enable customers to quickly build content applications that span traditional documents, structured editorial workflows and dynamic multi-channel delivery. The combination is expected to give customers the freedom to combine content, community and commerce capabilities into unified digital experiences in order to drive business results.

The announcement of the partnership is likely an unsurprising move for most involved in the open source content management and document management industry as similar partnerships with other content management providers and Alfresco have already occurred. Nor is this the first time that we've seen Acquia involved with integrating the Drupal CMS with the Alfresco platform. However, this is probably the first time we've seen Acquia and Alfresco Inc. so publicly announce such a partnership for delivering products and services. This move is perhaps recognition that customers have need for better integration solutions in both product and services.

“Our partnership with Alfresco represents a key milestone in our efforts to help enterprises build business-critical digital experiences that work inside the enterprise, in the cloud and across mobile channels,” said Tom Erickson, CEO of Acquia. “Our customers and partners can take advantage of our best-of-breed open-source platforms to create web applications that accelerate content delivery, increase customer satisfaction and foster collaboration across the enterprise. Alfresco recently moved its own web site to Drupal, a demonstration of our mutual commitment to a joint customer solution.”

Acquia and Alfresco each provide open source platforms that address complementary aspects of an organization’s content infrastructure. With Acquia and Drupal, organizations can build and maintain multi-channel digital experiences for content, community and commerce applications — faster and with greater agility. Additionally, with more than 20,000 Drupal modules available for use, enterprises can take advantage of reusable components to simplify and accelerate new site deployments.

On the content production side, Alfresco offers document management and editorial production workflow capabilities to support critical, content-centric applications that require structured approval and publishing processes.

“For digital experiences that span web, mobile and social Acquia helps create content applications that accelerate collaborative business processes and deepen engagement,” said Doug Dennerline, CEO of Alfresco. “Together, we deliver best-of-breed solutions that enable our customers and partners to develop holistic content strategies that span documents and the web.”

The combination of Acquia and Alfresco offers enterprises a potentially powerful, open approach to business critical content applications, including regulated content applications, internal and external social applications with document collaboration needs, and websites with extensive content repositories.
