Wokingham, UK, September 12, 2012 - Perforce Software announced the availability of the new Perforce Plug-in for Visual Studio, P4VS. P4VS embeds the capabilities of the Perforce Software Version Management system into Microsoft Visual Studio 2012. With Perforce, team members can work in parallel and collaborate more effectively on development projects, while enterprises enjoy the benefits of greater productivity, security and compliance.

“Integration of Perforce’s product into Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 helps software development teams release high-quality, defect-free applications faster and resolve issues more efficiently,” said Tom Lindeman, Director of the Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP) program.  “Together, Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and Perforce improve efficiencies and strengthens the collaboration experience for teams of any size, increasing the value each member brings to a development project.”

From the Visual Studio environment, developers can easily check out and check in files, merge work with team members and view detailed file history. Developers also gain access to advanced Perforce tools to improve project collaboration, analysis, and distributed workflows. Specifically, these tools include:

  • Perforce Streams: Built-in workflow that offers flexible process and a best practice branch-and-merge strategy.
  • Perforce Sandbox: Built-in distributed workflow for local, private branching and task or feature branching.
  • Time-lapse View: A graphical tool that visualizes the entire content history and evolution of Perforce-managed files.
  • Revision Graph: A graphical tool that shows the branch history of a specified file, including all branch points, edits, and merges, using a tree-style representation.
“This integration brings powerful Perforce features into Visual Studio, adding vital support for teams who need the best collaboration tools to handle complex development projects,” said Randy DeFauw, technical marketing manager for Perforce Software. “We are dedicated to delivering scalable version management and making it accessible to our users from within whatever application they choose to work."
