  • Tuesday CMS Expo Panel: Getting Ahead in the Cloud

Tuesday CMS Expo Panel: Getting Ahead in the Cloud

At the 2013 CMS Expo Learning & Business Conference I have the privilege of moderating a panel focused on the Cloud. That's actually a broad topic, but I think it's a topic that is increasingly becoming well understood by the CMS community. Last year, I moderated a similar panel and, in my opinion, we spent way too much time trying to define the Cloud. This year, I'm hoping we're past the "what is it" phase and spend much more time talking about real problems, real benefits, and the challenges the content management industry may be facing by moving toward a Cloud solution.

  • Taking a look at the Agility March 2013 Release

Taking a look at the Agility March 2013 Release

On my to-do list for quite some time has been wanting to talk briefly about some of the new features included in the latest release of Agility CMS. You may recall that CMS Report migrated over to Agility's Magazine Publishing Suite last Fall. So, keeping up to date on new features added to Agility CMS is not only a news story but also something of personal interest to me.

  • CEO Corner: Cloud CMS vs. Installed CMS

If I learned anything from my open source vs. proprietary CMS post, comparing CMS’s based on the method used to code them is no longer that relevant. Following the great discussion that was triggered convinced me that comparing along this dimension no longer contributes much to the CMS selection process.

The other thing I learned was that being cheeky, while good for attention, probably isn’t the most forthcoming way to educate the readers of this great publication. So this time around, I promise to be more thorough and objective!  Hopefully we’ll get some insights from the community again as well!

  • CEO Corner: How do You Compete with Free?

CEO Corner: How do You Compete with Free?

WordPress is not the only free CMS. Drupal and Joomla jump to mind, but there are lots and lots of others. So we as CMS vendors need to think beyond the traditional web content management functionality and figure out ways to innovate our way to a competitive advantage.

  • A Review of the Agility Magazine Publishing Suite

A Review of the Agility Magazine Publishing Suite

Last week, Agility officially announced the release of their new Agility Magazine Publishing Suite. The Magazine Suite is a cloud-based website publishing solution that is designed for online magazines and blogs. Over the past year, I've had a chance to watch Agility evolve and improve this new product and recently CMS Report completed a migration to Agility's Magazine Suite. In this article, I share my thoughts and experience with Agility's newest product.

  • CMS Focus: Agility makes the Top 30 List

CMS Focus: Agility makes the Top 30 List

For several years, CMS Report has quietly maintained CMS Focus which includes the top thirty content management systems that are on our radar. Today, we officially listed Agility onto the CMS Focus page. For those that have been paying attention, this change should come to no surprise to you. We've been working closely with Agility, Inc. the past year and recently migrated this site onto the Agility CMS and their Magazine Publishing Suite. While this may be Agility's first day on the list, we have actually had them on our radar unofficially for some time now.

  • The CMS Report Reboot

    The CMS Report Reboot

A few days ago, we relaunched CMS Report with a new layout and under a much different content management system than we've used in the past. This journey began more than two years ago after realizing this site needed to evolve beyond my comfort zone. After being approached by Agility nine months ago, new ideas quickly took form and I decided to host the site using Agility's Magazine Publishing Suite. We're still smoothing out the rough edges of the new site but I think we've taken some important first steps. If you are truly passionate about content management and information systems then I hope you'll accept my invitation to stay with us because I think you're going to enjoy this ride.
