Date for Drupal 6 end-of-life announced

I admit it. When looking at the calendar my eyes have been focused on November 19, 2015. This is the date that Drupal 8, under development since 2011, is expected to be released. But for Drupal 6 users, the beginning of Drupal 8 also marks the beginning of the end for Drupal 6 support. Announced on, Michael Hess writes that Drupal 6 will reach end-of-life on February 24 2016.

  • Mailbag: DPCI Announces the DPSBridge Module for Drupal

Mailbag: DPCI Announces the DPSBridge Module for Drupal

A few days ago, I received an advance copy DPCI's press release announcing that DPCI has contributed an open source module to integrate Drupal with the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. As far as I can tell, the Drupal 7 module is currently a sandbox project  but I assume it will eventually be released as a full module once the code is worked out.

I usually don't blog about specific modules or plugins of a CMS unless I've actually used them for myself or they're huge to the story of the CMS. However, I owe mention of this module to Joe Bachana, President and Founder of DPCI. Several years ago, he invited me to sit on a Drupalcon panel discussing enterprise trends in content management. Besides Joe and myself the panel included Bryan House, Acquia and moderator Jacob Morgan, Chess Media Group.  That panel was a milestone event for me (huge audience) and forced me to acknowledge that I not only had a voice in this industry but also people willing to listen.

So without hesitation, DPCI's press release regarding their new Drupal module follows.

  • Google feeds the Web and Apache's need for speed

Google feeds the Web and Apache's need for speed

This month, Google announced that it has officially moved its Apache page speed module, mod_pagespeed, out of beta. For those websites running on the open source Apache HTTP Server, this module speeds up your site and reduces page load time. On the Internet, where user demand quick page rendering, this Apache module automatically applies web performance best practices to pages, and associated assets (CSS, JavaScript, images) without requiring that you modify your existing content or workflow.

  • Review of Drupal's Building Blocks

A couple weeks ago my family spent some vacation time at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. If you have ever been to a Disney theme park then you know full well that it takes a lot of work in those parks just to have fun. Some of the most popular rides in these parks have waiting periods of up to two hours due to the long lines of people wanting to get on board. Luckily, my wife brought a Disney tourist guidebook that gave our family the helpful hints, recommendations, and information we needed to beat those long lines.  In the end, we ended up with a very enjoyable trip (so enjoyable that we got to ride Space Mountain twice!). That travel guide was a valuable asset to my family's vacation.

Mastering Drupal is very similar to visiting a theme park as it takes some effort on your part to ensure you get rewarded for your effort. If Drupal is the amusement park then consider Drupal's modules as the park's attractions you're wanting to ride. With this line of thinking, I easily recommend that you let Earl and Lynette Miles' book, Drupal's Building Blocks, be your valuable tourist guide into the wonderful world of Drupal. I only review a few books each year and this is a book I gladly invested my time reading.
