Drupal: Drupal 5 release candidate

"Rejoice fellow Drupalites! After just two betas we present you the first Drupal 5 release candidate (RC1)...

You can read about the new features in the beta 1 announcement. In contrast to the beta's, most debugging has been done and, should no more fatal bugs emerge, this version is release worthy. A list of all the bugfixes since beta 2 can be found on the release page.

While we do not recommend to run release candidate 1 on production sites, we are going to break the rule ourselves on Drupal.org, in order to test Drupal 5 on a large site. We plan to upgrade Drupal.org to Drupal 5 RC1 somewhere during the next couple of weeks."

...because it's come up three times in the past month. I just received Packt's book on Drupal, and I'm installing it tonight. I suppose I'll go with this release candidate. I've always looked at Drupal as more of a "community management system," more than a "content management system." Curious to see how well-founded my feelings were.

I would be curious to hear what you think about Drupal, whether you write it here or at one of your own sites. My experience with Drupal was a lot like my first experience with Unix after living in a Windows/DOS world for so long. Frustrating at first with few rewards, but eventually you get addicted and rewarded for your troubles.

Deane Didn't you know, eventually all CMS will be community management systems. :-)

I have been using WordPress for most of my websites, because it is easy to get up and running, but Drupal is more capable and really much more interesting to work with. I started a website with Drupal 4.7 - it is not ready to promote yet though (you can check it out if you want, it will have lots of information about food allergies when it is ready). Mean while, I started yet another website with Drupal 5.0, and really like how things are coming along. Drupal 5.0 is that much easer to use and configure. If you are trying to decide between Drupal or WordPress there an article about it on my website. Both have their pros and cons - it really depends on what you are trying to do and how comfortable you are with setting up software on the web.
