When open source projects becomes more popular the project leaders often need to increase the time spent on their projects. The increasingly popular Windows-based content management system (CMS), mojoPortal, is no exception to this rule. mojoPortal's project leader, Joe Audette, recently announced on his blog that he is currently making career changes show he can better nurture the mojoPortal project along:

I'm still currently working full time for Integration Management of Brentwood TN until November 15. After that I will still be doing some work for them but mainly launching Source Tree Solutions so I can devote more time to advancing mojoPortal. I'm very excited and full of ideas to take mojoPortal to the next level.

In other words, with mojoPortal now getting full time attention by its developers, don't be surprised to see some surprisingly good things to evolve from this CMS.

Last summer, we did a review of mojoPortal and the article continues to remain one of CMS Report's most read article to date. While mojoPortal may not always make the headlines, make no mistake that there is strong interest in this up and coming content management system. I wish Joe Joe Audette and all those with the mojoPortal project well.

mojoPortal is cross platform

Hey Bryan, Thanks for the attention (as always)! mojoPortal will definitely be progressing faster as I make this transition. I would like to point out that mojoPortal is not just windows based, while our newest codebase currently only runs on Windows, we do have a version that is fully supported on Linux or Mac OSX using the Mono project. When the project began we only had one version and it worked on both Windows and *nix with Mono. What happened was last November Microsoft released the 2.0 .NET framework and the Mono project is still in catchup mode in implemeting the 2.0 features. In order to not fall behind other windows/.NET based CMS products we moved forward with new development and forked the code. My best guestimate right now is that in Q1 of 2007 the Mono project will be sufficiently caught up and we will be back to a single code base for all platforms. So currently linux mojoPortal users are waiting for the Mono project to catchup so they can upgrade to the newest version of mojoPortal but cross platform support is one of the biggest things that differentiates mojoPortal from other .NET based CMS solutions. Thanks for the comments Joe. I should have chosen my words a little more carefully before saying "Windows-based". What I was intending to say was that the mojoPortal has roots in Windows with it being written in C# and able to run on ASP.NET.

I have to confess I haven't kept up with the Microsoft side of programming since the VB days. Most of my focus these days are in Python and PHP...and with Perl and Pascal (showing my age) in the background...I've gotten lazy in learning anything new. What I find interesting is that Java is suppose to be the most popular language for developers...yet for open source projects we really don't see too much of it. Of course, I hope to have some Java developers tell me otherwise.
