List of Fake Content Management Stories from April Fools Day 2011
For the blogger, the most difficult day of the year has to be April Fools' Day. This is the day where jokes are played and stories are made up. Computer geeks and CMS junkies easily get into the spirit of this celebrated day by pulling all kinds of online pranks. One of my fondest April Fools memories is from 2007 when the official Japanese and Russian Drupal sites migrated for a day from the Drupal CMS over to Joomla!. Good times, good times. The folks over at ocProducts have gotten into the 2011 April Fools spirit by announcing ocPortal 7 with HTML6.
I need your help! Please help me keep track of all the CMS related April Fools' stories that you find online. EPiServer releases EPiServer Relate+2
I continue to hear great things about EPiServer from Blend Interactive's Dean Barker and other folks in the CMS industry. Their accolades for this CMS is one of the reasons I decided to begin focusing on EPiServer here at the site.
Honestly, I don't know enough about EPiServer which is why some of the EPiServer fanboys have promised getting together with me sometime to talk about this platform. Until my education is complete, I'm going to resort to cheap writing by using press releases and blogs to get some of my information out to you about EPiServer. For instance, lets see if this product announcement by EPiServer's marketing gets you interested to hear more about their products:
EPiServer announces the release of EPiServer Relate+2 , a product package for EPiServer CMS 6, which containsEPiServer Community 4 and EPiServer Mail 5. It also includes a sample website which shows how to combine these three products to build a powerful online community. In today’s conversation economy the ability to get involved in websites where users are free to create, organize and share know-how and experiences in the form of words, pictures and videos is becoming more prevalent and Relate+ makes it a seamless experience for community members, community owners and moderators.
Included is support for Open ID where users can use an existing login ID to sign into multiple websites. The same rich text editor found in EPiServer CMS, TinyMCE, is now used for writing blog posts and the MetaWeblog API is also supported, so users can use their favorite blog applications, such as iBlogger for the iPhone or Live Writer for Windows, when creating or editing blog posts. In combination with blog syndication and ping/ pingbacks, Relate+ is a full-fledged blog engine.
Additional information about EPiServer Relate can be found at EPiServer.com.
Customer Engagement Systems: Adapting Digital Strategies to Retain Customers and Improve Sales
At a time when consumers have increasingly high expectations for website content, site owners need to pull out all the stops when creating an engaging experience for their visitors. This may include social networking features, multimedia, interactive features like polls and contests, and of course, fresh content that changes frequently. And these features need to be easy to add to a site (and change often) without constant intervention from the IT department.
The trouble is that all-in-one solutions for online customer engagement are thin on the ground. For the most part, the various functions that a site owner needs to deploy for customer engagement – such as analytics, social networking, and content management – are found in separate solutions, creating software management headaches for site owners.
Why is customer engagement so critical for today’s site owners? In a still-recovering economic climate, websites can’t afford to lose customers who show up on the home page, only to lose interest and leave when they’re not drawn in by compelling content. Engaged customers will download information and submit their contact information, which fills the lead-generation pipeline. They’ll buy products, they’ll stay longer, and they’ll come back again and again.
You need to adapt your digital strategies to meet the high expectations of the consumers, and the requirements of your business, to make as many customer interactions succeed. Ideally, customer engagement systems contain the following functions if they are to achieve the goals of retaining customers and improving sales:
Tools to streamline marketing campaigns: Marketing and sales departments shouldn’t need to enlist technical people every time they need to launch a new campaign, or shift gears on a current campaign. Nontechnical users should be able to easily create campaigns and monitor their progress.
EPiServer introduces their next generation Web CMS
CHICAGO, IL – March 23, 2010 – Businesses today are challenged with creating online experiences that engage web users at every turn. To meet the changing needs of today’s competitive online environment, EPiServer (http://episerver.com), the world’s fastest growing provider of platforms that drive online engagement, today introduced its next generation content management system (CMS). EPiServer CMS delivers a powerful suite of solutions via an open, intuitive platform, including a new OnlineCenter that makes it easy for businesses to develop, manage and measure all aspects of their online presence.
“To stand out on the web, we need tools that increase traffic and keep visitors coming back,” said Tom Kracht, CTO of The Bancorp, Inc., a bank holding company that operates The Bancorp Bank, an FDIC-insured online commercial bank that delivers a full array of financial services and products nationally, both directly and through private-label affinity programs. “EPiServer CMS lets us quickly develop a compelling online presence and easily manage that presence to ensure we are meeting the needs of our customers. The new EPiServer OnlineCenter provides a centralized dashboard that allows us to be efficient in utilizing all aspects of our website, so that we may support our current clients while growing our business."
EPiServer CMS is the only platform on the market today designed to support content, commerce and community. It goes beyond traditional content management systems to deliver a powerful set of solutions that include social media and community applications, as well as SEO, personalization and rich internet applications. Martin Henricson joins EPiServer as CEO, allowing planned promotion of current CEO Peter Larsson to Executive Chairman of the BoardMartin
Chicago, IL, February 12, 2010 -- Henricson, 49 years of age, joins EPiServer on February 12th as CEO in preparation for an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Prior to EPiServer, Martin was CEO for Bure Equity and Tradedoubler, both public companies. During Mr. Henricson’s tenure as CEO for Tradedoubler from 2002 to 2007, the company grew to become the on-line marketing leader in Europe, with revenues over 3 billion SEK. He also led the successful IPO of the company.
Mr. Henricson replaces Peter Larsson, who has been appointed to Executive Chairman of the Board at EPiServer. The former Chairman of the Board, Hans Otterling, will become a member of the board.
”Peter has done a tremendous job for EPiServer as CEO. The goals which Northzone, Amadeus and Monterro set for the company when making the investment in 2007 have been achieved. Upon our entry, we also set the long-term strategy for EPiServer and as planned Peter now takes an active position as Executive Chairman of the Board,” says Hans Otterling, retiring chairman of the Board.
EPiServer, Umbraco, and Omeka added to CMS Report's CMS Focus
This week we added three Web applications to our CMS Focus top 30 list. The CMSs and ECMs listed in CMS Focus are not necessarily the most popular in content management and are not meant to meet everyone's requirements for a CMS. Instead the content management systems that make up this top 30 are what I consider content management "game changers" or "attention getters". New to CMS Focus are the following CMS/ECM: EPiServer, Umbraco, and an unknown CMS called Omeka.
My thanks to all those that made their suggestions to me via Twitter. Besides the three CMS that made the top 30 list, we had enough tweets to call our attention to Enano, Coremedia, Alterian, OpenCMS, SDL Tridion, Jahia, and Nuxeo. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of these additional CMSs making their way onto CMS Focus in the near future.
In order to make room the new entries, we dropped three Web applications out of CMS Focus and into our "Hall of Fame". These applications were Gallery (2006-2010), Frog CMS (2009-2010), and SMF (2006 - 2009). All three applications are fine pieces of softweare for what they are designed to do and are still be worth a look. However, our focus continues to shift to more complete information systems and retirement to the hall of fame were long overdue for these applications.
