developerWorks: Create a photo album application
Submitted by Bryan on October 24, 2007 - 11:08pm"One of the main goals of Project Zero is to simplify the creation of rich Internet applications (RIAs). The Flickr photo sharing service is an excellent example of such an application. Designed using REST principles, Asynchronous JavaScript + XML (Ajax) techniques, and dynamic scripting languages, Flickr provides a service that is not only user friendly, but also scalable and extensible. Because Flickr has many of the qualities that authors of other RIAs are striving for, recreating this type of application with Zero would be an excellent way to validate Zero as an RIA platform."
John Newton: Microsoft needs REST
Submitted by Bryan on June 20, 2007 - 10:09am"Apparently, Microsoft is diverging from the rest of the Web 2.0 world on how to approach integration and mashups. REST (Representational State Transition) is an architectural style that is transforming how systems integrate together, but it isn’t a standard. The ATOM Publishing Protocol (APP) is a popular RESTful standard used by Google and Yahoo among others to integrated services and manage publishing of information. However, Microsoft has taken exception to APP that everyone else is adopting and chosen to build their own protocol."
