I have to admit, until I read Doug Campbell's post I didn't know that we could expect a new version of WordPress soon. WordPress 2.0.5 can be expected soon and is mainly a bug fixer with some minor enhancements.

No official announcement yet, but WordPress 2.0.5 has just transitioned from Beta to Release Candidate status. Join the wp-testers mailing list for details on how to download nightly builds. This release is mostly minor bugfixes. You can view all the changes at the WordPress Trac site.

The release is a patch release designed to address problems in the following areas:

• The 4.5.4 patch/build fixes SQL injection and XSS issues.
• The 4.6.1 patch/build fixes the same, plus a number of minor issues found with 4.6 since its release on Sept 18.

Note that this patch does not address all the concerns raised with SEO and the Language Manager functionality in 4.6. Those issues are being discussed and will be the subject of a 4.6.2 release in the near future."

Work continues for the release of Wordpress 2.0.4 and eventually Wordpress 2.1. The developers are planning a Wordpress bug hunt on Independence Day (in the United States). The folloing informaiton was posted on the Wordpress Development blog:

Bug Independence Day is July 4th! To help shake the bugs out of the upcoming 2.0.4 and 2.1 releases, we're holding a Bug Hunt next week. We'll be finding and fixing bugs and cleaning up the bug tracker. All are welcome to join us in the #wordpress-bugs IRC channel as we go on the hunt. We'll get things started at Midnight between Tuesday, July 4, 2006 and Wednesday, July 5, 2006 San Francisco time and keep going for 24 hours or until everyone gets tired. We'll have folks keepng vigil at all hours so drop by at whatever time is convenient to you.

All you need to help out is the ability to install and run WordPress, folks of all skill levels are invited to join. We need people testing as much as we need people coding. (If not a little more.)
