England, UK, March 3, 2010 - Fastnet Web Design & Video, a UK based web design & CMS company, has partnered with Kaltura, developer of the first open source online video platform. Fastnet will be reselling Kaltura's SaaS (Software as a Service) video platform to UK companies, incorporating full end to end web video & CMS plug-ins for Joomla, Drupal, WordPress & Moodle. Fastnet selected Kaltura's full video management platform because of the ease of use for uploading, managing, displaying, scheduling, editing and publishing its video content with full statistical analytics – all from the browser.
"Even though we have been using video for years, it's great to partner with Kaltura to enhance our video offerings on-line for our clients" said Philip Locke of Fastnet "This will allow our clients to deliver engaging behind-the-scenes videos to their audience, using a one-stop-shop video SaaS solution".
"We are delighted to partner with Fastnet and extend Kaltura's reach even further to additional publishers in the UK," said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman and CEO. "Kaltura's open strategy and open source technology allows resellers, integrators, developers, publishers and basically anyone to deploy our platform, customise it and even own it – it provides the most flexible solution on the market and for the lowest prices."
Last week, CMS Report received an email regarding a new CMS that focuses on managing multimedia content. The application is written in Python so naturally we're going to talk to let our readers know about this new platform.
I'm not sure if you guys have covered this yet, but as a regular reader of cmsreport.com I thought I would let you know. Earlier this month my company launched a new Open Source python based CMS focused on video and podcasting.
MediaCore is a free open source video cms and podcast platform. MediaCore can pull video or audio from any source, track statistics, enable commenting, and provide a high degree of control over the presentation and administration.
Let me know if you guys need any further information on the project. Right now we are just trying to get the word out about it.
Rob Larsen shows you how to create cross-browser, HTML5 enhanced WordPress themes using nothing more than a little extra JavaScript, basic WordPress knowledge and some knowledge of the new elements.
Copyright Criminals, which airs its documentaries on PBS, has an upcoming show on the rise of sampling in hip-hop music. While, the documentary focuses on copyright laws covering music it's not too difficult to apply lessons learned for other content including text found on web sites.
You may notice that I currently don't specify a copyright or Creative Commons license on my site. Where do I stand on the issue? I pretty much follow US Copyright laws which basically says using excerpts from an article is proper but it's illegal, outside of personal use, to copy a full article without permission. In the end though, it's not the law that I rely on but each persons own moral compass. That seems to work for me. It's only in rare cases that I've found people stealing entire articles without permission nor giving credit where credit is due.

There are a number of nice features and improvements that are included with the new WordPress 2.9. Probably the feature that will get everyone's attention is the improvements in the media-handling of images and videos. The improvements in this latest version of WordPress continue to show why this open source blogging application excels in usability.
Four features that the developers are highlighting in WordPress 2.0 include:
Global undo/”trash” feature, which means that if you accidentally delete a post or comment you can bring it back from the grave (i.e., the Trash). This also eliminates those annoying “are you sure” messages that have been used to have on every delete.
Built-in image editor allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images to show them who’s boss. This is the first wave of our many planned media-handling improvements.
Batch plugin update and compatibility checking, which means you can update 10 plugins at once, versus having to do multiple clicks for each one. The project is using the new compatibility data from the plugins directory to give you a better idea of whether your plugins are compatible with new releases of WordPress. This should take the fear and hassle out of upgrading.
Easier video embeds that allow you to just paste a URL on its own line and have it magically turn it into the proper embed code, with Oembed support for YouTube, Daily Motion, Blip.tv, Flickr, Hulu, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Scribd, Google Video, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv (and more in the next release).
Be sure and check out the video showing off WordPress 2.9 after the fold.
