Iatek, today announced the latest .NET version of its flagship product, PortalApp.
PortalApp 4.0 is the newest open source portal and content management system for the .NET platform. This highly anticipated release contains several dramatic improvements that make PortalApp a massively versatile application. With blogging, content management and community features, PortalApp is so flexible that it can be used to rapidly create any type of content-centric Website.
PortalApp was entirely redesigned, and as before a significant goal was to make a product that could be used to manage any type of Web content. The CMS industry has run with the concept of 'Content Types' that Iatek originally introduced in 2004. PortalApp .NET now includes more than 100 Content Type templates. Iatek has also extended the Content Types with custom attributes that can be used to accomodate ad-hoc content. PortalApp is not a CMS that just lets you post articles. PortalApp can be used to manage news, blogs, image galleries, projects, downloads, product descriptions, tech notes and any other type of content. PortalApp's template-based architecture enables administrators to define and manage the sites' layout and functionality from the Web-based control panel.
The flexible templates are also used as the basis for all of the PortalApp modules including membership, forums, surveys, calendar and advertising. The extra modules for community and advertising extend PortalApp well beyond a pure CMS. The new PortalApp also includes more than 100 pre-defined tokens that can be used to plug in functionality like tag clouds, thumbnail viewers, or latest postings.
