Welcome to CMS Report!

Our Purpose

This should come as no surprise...our focus on this site is content management systems (CMS). Over the past decade I've developed an obsession for content management systems, especially Web content management systems.  This site has evolved out of genuine interest in CMS, information technology, information systems, collaboration, and the people involved with CMS. While open source content management systems are discussed more often than propriety systems, we still have a healthy interest in the propriety systems too.

The primary mission of CMS Report is to inform readers of the latest happenings in the world of content management systems.  The best approach for discussing content management on this site is of course open to debate.  We currently provide the information we do through three sources:

  • Aggregated news feeds (RSS/Syndicated news)
  • Original content written by me and visiting authors
  • Comments from visitors

As we continue to evolve, we hope to eventually expand our content by also providing information from at least two other sources:

  • Original content from full-time writers
  • Content provided through a forum-like format, similar to another site I run: the WebCMS Forum.
Have a story idea that you would like to see posted here at CMS Report?  See our Submit Story page for details.  In brief, all you need to do is register an account here at CMS Report.  Any stories or links you submit will need to be reviewed by the editor before we publish it on the site.  More than likely, you will see your article or link posted within a day or two after you have submitted it to us.

History

With my roots in science, specifically Atmospheric Science, one would assume I would rather use a CMS than actually talk about a CMS. However this past decade has caught my academic and professional interests in not only information technology, but also information systems (IS), business processes, and strategic planning. So with all these other interests, why spend so much time talking about CMS? Simply put, I believe web-based CMS is the first real glimpses we have to how information systems and information technology are suppose to work together.

My first site that focused on content management systems is the WebCMS Forum. If you haven't heard of it, you wouldn't be the first. Membership for the forum continues to grow at a slow pace, but at least it is still growing. I started the forum because I was tired of visiting forums where people only championed their favorite CMS and didn't want to acknowledge that there are other CMS applications out there also doing things right. The primary purpose of WebCMS Forum is to provide a place where people can give open and honest opinions about the CMS they are using. I believe that we can all learn from each other and build better sites, whether you're using Joomla, Drupal, osCommerce, SMF, Wordpress, etc. And yes, when appropriate the propriety and commercial applications out there also deserve some respect and attention.

While the WebCMS Forum was intended for users and developers to discuss their favorite CMS applications, it became apparent that it was not the best site for me to point out the latest news reports regarding CMS. I wanted a site that pointed Internet users to blog postings, online articles, and other content which they could go to and learn about what is happening in the world of CMS. Where users opinions drive WebCMS Forum, it is the news that drives CMS Report. The evolution of this site will take some time and for now I'm patient in seeing what tomorrow brings. Stay tuned to exciting times ahead!
