Official release of Joomla 1.5

Joomla LogoI briefly wanted to mention that the stable release of Joomla! 1.5 has finally arrived! Needless to say, there are some very happy people in the open source community to see this version of the content management system go gold.

I haven't taken a serious look at Joomla! 1.5 since Beta 1 and Beta 2 were out the door. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to taking a look at the finished product over the course of the next few weeks. Until then, below is a brief glimpse from the announcement at Joomla.org of what you can expect from version 1.5.

As an application, Joomla! 1.5 boasts remarkable advances over Joomla! 1.0 in the areas of extensibility, usability and internationalization. Building extensions is vastly easier and faster because of the comprehensive new API. The simplified user interface eliminates unnecessary clicks and context changes for site administrators and managers. Support for extended character sets, right to left languages, and translation of all static text in the front end and the administrator allows enhanced internationalization and worldwide use. New options for use of layout overrides and template parameters give designers total control over the look and feel of sites.

All I can say is, congratulations to the Joomla! developers and open source community for achieving this important milestone. I am looking forward to getting to know Joomla 1.5! a little better now that we know you're here to stay.

Joomla 1.5 Stable Release

I've been upgrading Joomla Release Candidate 3 sites to the newly Released 1.5 Stable. The upgrade process is straightforward and in most cases goes off without a hitch. The Joomla forum has posts by hundreds of people asking questions or needing help of varying degrees of sophistication. It has been fun learning from and helping others in the huge Joomla community.

The move to standards compliant object oriented code makes Joomla scalable to meet the needs of future users. You can view our Joomla site that incorporates Joomla 1.5, a commecial template, a Fireboard forum, Deki Wiki and Wordpress Blog. at http://alcoholicsanonymousonline.com .

I am looking forward to the Drupal 6.0 release and am installing 5.7 sites now. It is a great time to be involved in open source CMS.
