New Drupal News Site

Drupal Themed is news and content submitted by you the Drupal community user. It works just like the popular site Digg.com. If you have a new theme, plugin or just want to show off your Drupal powered website this is the place to do it. Why Drupal-Themed? Well, there really isn't any place one can submit Drupal news and get noticed, besides forums etc. so we decided to launch a site that would be a centralized place to post news regarding Drupal and the entites surrounding it.

A site for Drupal but does not use Drupal?

It's knid of ironic for a site that is catered for the large Drupal community but doesn't use the power of Drupal for their own site???

Is Drupal not capable of building a Digg clone site?

Drupal News is Pligg?

A little bit of snooping would suggest the site is using the Pligg CMS. While I don't want to take away from the site (it does look well done), it is odd that they didn't use Drupal to report Drupal-only news. Yes, there are modules that will allow you to use Drupal for a digg-like site and CMSReport.com recently reported about Drigg. The Drigg module is available at Drupal.org at: http://drupal.org/project/drigg . I would be curious to hear from Drupal-theme to find out why they didn't use Drupal.

Besides the Drigg module being available at Drupal.org, there is a lot more contributed modules available for other alternative methods to building a Digg-like site.

Drupal vs. Pligg

Hello Bryan,

The reason Pligg was originally chosen was just the familiarity I had with the CMS compared to Drupal. There were quite a few inquirys on why Pligg and not Drupal so I went ahead and explored the possibilities of converting.  The site has been converted over to Drupal using the Drigg plugin.

Using Drupal for a Drupal

Using Drupal for a Drupal news site...probably a much better marketing plan.  However, Pligg does look like a CMS worth looking into...
