eZ Systems and Apple have joined forces

eZ Systems, the leading Open Source Enterprise Content Management vendor for digital media publishing, has joined forces with Apple to provide a unique, complete production and editorial workflow solution for digital media. It covers the video production step all the way to cross-media publishing.

This solution, which will be showcased during a European roadshow this autumn, addresses the unique challenges faced by the media industry: delivering rich and fast-changing content; satisfying demanding and engaged users; and facilitating large and distributed editorial teams.

The solution is built using Apple's Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Server, but also supports Podcast Producer. Final Cut Studio handles video editing and production, while Final Cut Server handles media asset management and workflow automation (such as video approval).

Bill Gates Video: Last Day at Microsoft

This YouTube video was too hilarious to pass up. I do wonder though, how much did the video cost?

Press Release: IJ Solutions Develops Slamdance Film Festival Website Using OpenEdit CMS

A year-round organization dedicated to supporting emerging artists and independent films, Slamdance Inc., was in need of an interactive Content Management web application to support their online filmmaker community. With its renowned film festival as its core, Slamdance wanted to expand its ventures to include the popular Slamdance.com website, writing competitions for both screenplays and teleplays, the Anarchy Online Short Film Competition, a $99 Special short film production project, a Games competition and the newly announced Slamdance Horror Screenplay Competition, where an annual chosen script is guaranteed to be produced as a feature film.

Said Joel Halse Director of IJ Solutions, "Christopher Burkey, President of OpenEdit, approached me to take part in the Slamdance project. At the time, Slamdance had an existing site that was missing some important social and community features and functionality such as, uploading and playing of videos from within a video catalog, accepting online screenplay submissions, online voting capabilities, built in community features including blogs, news, forums with membership tracking and so forth. eWeek: New Flash Player for Linux Adds Great Features, Slows Playback

"The new Flash Player could run faster, but its high definition support will ensure that it will be a winner.

On the plus side, Adobe Flash Player 9 Update 3, version identifier 9.0.115.0
was made available for Linux at the same time as Mac and Windows
versions. It's nice to see Linux not being treated as the little
brother who only gets the older, hand-me down programs by a major
software vendor. An even bigger win for Flash Player users, regardless
of their operating system, is that its supports H.264."

Drupal Tech Talk at Google

A couple days ago, a fantastic video giving an overview of Drupal was made available at Drupal.org.  I was impressed enough with the video that I thought it was worth mentioning here.  While the video gets technical, but I think anyone who has interest in content management applications (most of my site visitors) should be able to follow along just fine.

eContent: Converting Digital Camera Movies to Flash

"Like many of you, my digital camera allows me to take movies. However, the larger file sizes are not web friendly; thus I wanted to convert my avi files to the Flash format. Here were my two constraints:

  1. I wanted a free video conversion program that was easy to use.
  2. I did not want to do much html editing to make the content run on the web.

Here was my solution..."

I'm too hot for my computer

CNET has a video on their site that's fun to watch (fun from a geek perspective that is).
Celsia Technologies has married copper, water and steam in a method that it says can cool hard drives and processors more quickly and quietly than fans. CNET News.com's Michael Kanellos burns fellow CNET employees' fingers showing how it works.

The Drupal Boys - A Drupal Song video

Dries Buytaert had mentioned that when the Drupal developers came together at the Open Source CMS Summit he hoped they could make a video using Jeff Robbin's catchy Drupal Song.  I'm not sure the status of that video by the developers, but as a fan of Drupal I decided to beat them to the punch.

My son and I have become addicted to The Drupal Song.  In fact, when the song is playing in my house we quickly become The Drupal Boys.
