Global newsgathering network the Associated Press and live video broadcasting service Bambuser announced today an arrangement to provide Bambuser users with the opportunity to share newsworthy video via the AP.

"Our cooperation with AP is significant to us and a natural step to take,” said Bambuser Executive Chairman Hans Eriksson. “For the first time, the work of any Bambuser user can be shared and acknowledged in potentially all major media outlets. This is a real breakthrough for content providers as they can contribute to the wider story with their unique footage."

Around the world unprecedented numbers of people are broadcasting live video to the web. The probability of someone being at the scene with a smartphone when news breaks is increasing by the day. More and more Bambuser users are utilizing their handheld devices to capture news stories to share on their blogs, on Twitter and Facebook and on other social media. Starting today, Bambuser users also have the opportunity to share their content with a global audience through AP's worldwide network of news organisations.

Web Publishing Interviews by Michael Assad

Michael Assad, the CEO and a co-founder of Agility, must have been one busy man with a video camera during this year's SXSW. Michael was able to interview a number of leaders in the Web publishing industry including people working for such groups as Time Inc., Hearst, BBC, the New York Times, and Al Jazeera.

My two favorite interviews includes Michael's interview with Perry Solomon from Time Inc and his interview with Bill Adair from PolitiFact. One of my long standing criticisms of traditional media has been their lack of enthusiasm in embracing digital media. As a blogger, I tend to think that perhaps they "just don't get it" but such an argument would not be honest nor truthful. There are major players in the publishing industry that have known for decades that digital publishing needed to be a part of their business model. That iPad you're using wouldn't have been possible without the amount of brain storming provided years prior by these publishers.

Given one reason or another though, publishers until recently have been slow to deliver their content in the multiple formats and the mediums we prefer. As skilled as the publishing industry may be for delivering digital content their achilles heel has been unwillingness to take necessary risks. That's why this is great video footage from Michael as they show the print industry is now ready to fullly evolve and allow the digital publishing business take to be fully integrated with traditional print. At least that's what I take away from these videos.

WordCampTV: Lucy Beer on Treat Your Blog Like A Business

I'm posting this video for the most obvious reason. Anyone with the last name of Beer deserves an opportunity to be highlighted on my blog. All kidding aside, we need more people like Lucy Beer in the world reminding us blogging is a business and you can't move your blog forward with a strategy. The only thing I would have changed in her talk is to focus less on advertisement and more on content.

Content Management Fans Will Want To Watch CMS-Connected

There is a a new show in town and that show is called CMS-Connected. CMS-Connected is a monthly news show, streamed live on the TPN Network and primarily focused on the content management industry. This show is so impressive that when Gary Eisenstein, Founder of CMS Connected, asked me if CMS Report would help sponsor the show I didn't hesitate in saying yes.

Latest News, Products, Review & Guest Interviews - CMS Connected

CMS-Connected showcases the top products and platforms on the content management market, latest technologies, innovations, mergers and acquisitions, and CMS related news. Last month, I joked about my 1.5 seconds of fame on the last show but in actuality the entire show is "must-see".

What I like most about CMS-Connected is that it is a chance for us to meet the people behind the products and the analysis. You'll hear plenty of commentary from leading CMS experts, analysts and participating guests. Many of these hosts and guests for this show are friends in the industry we have all gotten to know or should know. Twitter and social media is fine for discussing content management...but this show makes the conversation so much more personal.

My 1.5 seconds of fame on CMS Connected

With a smile on his face, Scott Liewehr sent me a tweet the other day letting me know that he briefly plugged my name while co-hosting CMS-Connected. CMS-Connected is a 60-minute monthly news show, streamed live on the TPN Network with a focus on the web content management industry and includes CMS related news and commentary from leading CMS expert analysts and participating guests. It's a very good video production and well worth your viewing time if you have any interest in content management.

My "plug" on CMS-Connected can be found about 41 minutes and 30 seconds into the January show, Web CMS Industry 2011 Year In Review. This video also includes host Tyler Pyburn and Seth Gottlieb as guest. The inside joke is that Scott didn't intend to mention my name, but was referring to Acquia's VP of Marketing, Bryan House. I've met Bryan a few times and lets just say he deserves better recognition than to be confused with me. Luckily, Scott caught himself and it didn't take him long to give Mr. House his proper dues.

My 1.5 seconds of fame put a smile on my face because it is a reminder to me that people with a passion for content management are drawn together for a reason. I've always said that a content management system is more than a product. If you don't get that a CMS is also about people, business, and information systems you'll never understand the power of a CMS. People like Scott Liewehr and Deane Barker get this.

Introducing CumulusClips - A Video Sharing CMS

As a former meteorologist, I think it goes without saying that by default I will talk about any content management system with "cumulus" in the name. In this case, I'm talking about CumulusClips, a video sharing CMS officially out of Beta and released a stable version (v.1.1).

If you are in need of sharing videos but a little uneasy with allowing someone else manage those videos then perhaps CumulusClips is your answer. Requirements for hosting CumulusClips aren't too difficult to meet although you'll want plenty of memory for all that video encoding you'll need to do for new videos uploads.

The video sharing cms CumulusClips is officially out of Beta and released a stable version (v.1.1). CumulusClips is an open source video script that allows users to create their own video website or YouTube like clone. CumulusClips has several great attributes. These include free & open source, mobile support, and automatic updates, just to name a few.

With all the hype surrounding the video recently more specifically online video this is a major break through. Users can now deploy their own branded video communities without relying on the major players like YouTube and Vimeo.

Users have been able to build their own video websites for a while now however these solutions were usually tagged with a hefty price tag (like BrightCove) or encumbered with encrypted source code like other video cms'.

This week, WordPress 3.2 became available to the public. According to Matt Mullenweg, "the focus for this release was making WordPress faster and lighter". While the new version of WordPress doesn't bring any revolutionary changes to blogging, it does move this CMS forward with confidence and style.

New features and changes in WordPress 3.2 include:

  • A refreshed dashboard design that tightens the typography, design, and code behind the admin.
  • The introduction of a HTML 5 theme,Twenty Eleven, that modern browser users will appreciate.
  • A "just write" distraction-free writing or "zen mode" user interface.
  • Minimum PHP version is now 5.2.4. PHP 4 is no longer supported.
  • Minimum MySQL database version is now 5.0.
  • Internet Explorer (IE6) and other outdated browsers are no longer supported.

As has been customary ever since I remember, WordPress 3.2 is also given the code name of one of the Jazz artists greats, this time "Gershwin". Enjoy the video, found below the fold, introducing WordPress 3.2.
