Revolutionizing Retail: Live Online Video Sales Spurring Seismic eComm Paradigm Shifts

Even in a world where stunning technological advancements abound, seemingly daily, it’s not that often when such advancements have a genuine opportunity to revolutionize an entire industry—let alone one generating multi-trillion dollar annual revenues. Though exceedingly difficult and rare, that circumstance is not impossible. This as exemplified by the profound impact that live, in-person online video is now poised to make on the global e-retail trade, which some estimates project will grow to a staggering 5.4 trillion U.S. dollars in 2022.

Top Five Networking Trends for 2018

The top five networking trends that will shape 2018 are:

Security First

Cyber threats are becoming ever more sophisticated and increasing in volume. In addition, remote working or working across multiple sites and multiple devices, together with an increasing reliance on cloud-based applications, have all served to weaken traditional perimeter-based security.

Traditional firewall technology is no longer enough. Anyone designing or planning a new network deployment in 2018 must adopt a ‘Security First’ mantra, with security being embedded into the network elements and design.

Over 6 billion smartphones are projected to be in use by 2020, which means your website — and anything related to your online presence — better perform amazingly on a mobile device. Text, graphics, calls to action, video — it all needs to make sense and load quickly across a variety of smaller screens and operating systems, or you stand to lose out on traffic and dollars. Especially since video content continues its meteoric rise in popularity over other types, the need for optimized video is especially crucial.

My CMS-Connected Review of Magnolia CMS

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to put out a plug for my review of the Magnolia CMS on CMS-Connected last month. This was probably one of the easiest shows I've done in the sense that the Internet connection was good and the rest of the show seemed to complement my own segment well. My thanks to Boris Kraft, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Magnolia, for briefing me well about their product and spending some extra time with me during the demo.

My review of e-Spirit's FirstSpirit CMS

In September's CMS-Connected show, I once again had the privilege of being a guest reviewer for their "CMS In the Spotlight" segment. This time around I reviewed e-Spirit's FirstSpirit CMS. Never heard of it? Honestly, I hadn't either until CMS-Connected Producer Gary Eisenstein assigned me the gig. Come to find out, FirstSpirit CMS helps run a number of international sites from companies like Bosch, KLM, Speedo, Sterling Jewelers, and Nintendo of Europe. While doing my homework, I walked away from the demo impressed with the amount of effort e-Spirit had done to improve usability for authors and editors.
