Yesterday, The Joomla! Project and Community announced the availability of Joomla CMS 3.2.0 Stable. Since the release of 3.1.5, over 1085 commits have been made to the code base with 50 different people contributing to commits. But this release has a lot more than just bug fixes and includes a host of long awaited features for the open source content management system.
Some of the new features in Joomla 3.2 include:
- Content version control
- Numerous user interface improvements
- Easy multi-lingual setup for 64 officially supported languages
- A built-in Joomla! Extensions Finder as an onsite interface to the Joomla! Extensions Directory (that currently lists over 4000 extensions) providing one-click extensions installation
- Increased security with strong passwords and two step authentication
- A new rapid development framework for new extension coding
Joomla 3.2 is a standard-term support release and is a one-click upgrade from previous Joomla 2.5 and 3 series releases. Joomla 3.2 is being touted by its open source community as a "something new for everyone" release. For a complete list of new features and fixes included in Joomla 3.2, please see the official release announcement.
In addition to the Joomla 3.2 release, Joomla! has also provided a series of short video preview tutorials that show off and explain the new features we've highlighted. We've included the three video's that interested us the most. We found the volume a little low on some of the videos so may want to crank up juice a bit so you can hear properly.
