SilverStripe helps win a presidential election; this time in France

François Hollande won the presidential election in France last week, with the help of an impressive campaign and content management system SilverStripe.

Hollande’s website http://francoishollande.fr was the web-based focal point of the door to door campaign and functioned as the main communication tool throughout the whole election period. In the month before the election, the site had three million unique visitors and ranked 15th most visited information site in France.

Frédéric Giudicelli, CTO of François Hollande's web campaign, said the requirements for the site included a strong technology, a simple back office, a secure framework, an intensive social media integration throughout the site and an online donation option.

Silverstripe LogoFrançois Hollande's political campaign was the first one in Europe to have the development team being fully integrated into the campaign headquarters. The technical team of six people maintained the main website for top-down communication and another site that functioned as the communication tool for campaign activists.

“It was a rather small team and we could never have managed to develop and maintain so many sites, and versions of them, if it hadn't been for SilverStripe’s flexibility. The Framework and CMS allowed us to be very responsive on the necessary evolutions. It was very important for us to have the capacity to quickly add new page models or to simply change previous models” said CTO Giudicelli.

Open source CMS SilverStripe was originally developed in New Zealand in 2000. It was also the CMS of choice for the 2008 Democratic National Convention that led to Obama’s election as president of the United States.
