Smaller, Faster, Better. Those are the claims for ImpressCMS 1.3 and now you have the ability to put it to the test. The project developers have published a review release of the upcoming version. In addition to the internal changes, ImpressCMS 1.3 will run under PHP 5.3, positioning it for better implementations as web hosts begin upgrading their servers.
What Should You Expect From ImpressCMS 1.3 Alpha?
- Smaller - Once all the legacy code and duplicated code is removed, ImpressCMS will be much easier on the space required on your server, leaving more room for media files!
- Better - Also, the structure of the code has seen a major overhaul, in order to comply with the current best practices for PHP5. This makes the code easier to write, and easier to maintain.
- Faster - The refactoring in the ImpressCMS 1.3 release has resulted in major improvements: less memory use, speedier page loads and less SQL queries per page, making it the fastest and nimblest ImpressCMS to date.
As an alpha release, this is not intended for live sites, but only for testing and review. The development team is looking for feedback on the performance of this version on various servers and for design feedback on the administration area, which was another focus of this release. Feedback can be done through the community forums.
After reviewing the alpha release, work will begin on the beta release, which will focus on final improvements to the code and bug identification.
