SiteSupra Open Source Edition Released Today

SiteSupra, a hosted CMS and website builder, has now released their software as an open source CMS and development framework. SiteSupra Open Source Edition brings a new dimension to the web development market, as an open source product that may be hosted outside SiteSupra's own servers.

SiteSupra has designed a unique visual interface, which allows website editors to easily complete sophisticated website management tasks without any prior knowledge of programming. The new product has one of the most comprehensive drag-and-drop interfaces in the market: it includes page widgets, a site map, file storage, and the intuitive access and use of various internal applications.

Website developers can expect to enjoy building their projects with SiteSupra because of its modern architecture and use of popular Symfony components. Symfony offers PHP components and it's own framework intended to reduce a developer's learning curve and facilitate fast and comfortable development.

In SiteSupra's announcement their CEO, Anton Sulsky, stated:

Over ten years we tried to develop a sophisticated CMS, which is extremely powerful as a development framework and extremely easy to use as a website management tool. We are excited that our work is now released in open source. We hope it will allow developers to build sites fast, and win more clients because of the elegant CMS they will love.

SiteSupra is based on many years of research and development into the CMS and web frameworks. The first version of the product was released in 2001 and was among the first AJAX-based products before the term was even coined. The product was sponsored by the design and development company Vide Infra, based in Riga, Latvia, before the company was reorganized in 2013.

Eugene Kharkov, SiteSupra’s CTO, added: “We welcome feedback and contributions from developers. We are working to enrich the product with widgets and modules, and so we need developers’ views on required components, and also their help in improving the product further”.

SiteSupra Open Source Edition is a PHP-based free, GPL-licensed CMS that is available to download via GitHub. The product contributes to a hosted version of the product available under the same name, SiteSupra. The hosted and open source versions differ slightly.

SiteSupra is based in Riga, Latvia. The company hopes to win a devoted developer community and establish SiteSupra among the leading web CMS products.
