CMIS for Open Content Management Collaboration with Hippo and Nuxeo

Boston, Paris and Amsterdam, the Netherlands – June 14, 2011 – Hippo, a leading vendor of commercial Java Open Source Web Content Management is proud to announce a new technical alliance with Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM Platform) company.

The two companies have built an ECM/WCM connector based on the OASIS CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) standard.  A webinar with a demonstration of this connector will take place on July 20th.

Both Nuxeo and Hippo are open source, Java-based, CMIS-compliant platforms, so the partnership between the two is a natural extension – bringing high value functionality to developers, content architects and end users of both systems.   The Hippo/Nuxeo connector benefits from a high degree of flexibility and ensures that content coming from any source within the organization can be easily integrated into both platforms.
“The Hippo CMS and Hippo Portal helps empower our customer’s audiences, by driving multi-channel, multi-lingual, multi-site solutions,” said Hippo CEO Jeroen Verberg. “The CMIS connector to Nuxeo applications adds yet another possibility for the online communication of content. And, of course a connector between these two open source, Java-based platforms is quite empowering for organizations who need a scalable system that can grow and integrate with other tools.”

Nuxeo Document Management Now Offers Digital Signature Option

Boston – Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform company, now offers a Digital Signature add-on for its flagship Open Source Document Management software, Nuxeo DM. Based on the X.509 standard, the new component provides a secure electronic method for signing PDF files in Nuxeo DM and verifying the signatures with a digital certificate in a PDF reader.

Nuxeo Releases New Version of Open Source Document Management Software

Boston – June 1, 2011. Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform company, released a new version of Nuxeo Document Management and Nuxeo Enterprise Platform today. Nuxeo DM 5.4.2 offers a host of usability and social features to make the user experience even smoother and more streamlined. Key contributions highlight the value of community involvement in the strategy of continuous innovation for the Nuxeo platform.

The release of Nuxeo DM 5.4.2 and its underlying platform, Nuxeo EP, demonstrates execution on a vision of ongoing innovation, community engagement, and open standards support, delivered to content management application architects and developers. Driven by community feedback, many of the new features and enhancements improve usability of the application, using state-of-the-art technologies and standards, such as OpenSocial, OAuth, HTML5, WebDAV, and CMIS.

The new WSS connector was contributed by Nuxeo partner Gagnavarslan, an ECM solution provider in Iceland. The Nuxeo and Gagnavarslan teams collaborated to integrate this new component after passing the Nuxeo QA process. With this connector, the Nuxeo repository can be mapped as a drive under MS Windows or Mac OS X. "We are building a range of ECM services based on Nuxeo, and our clients need a smooth desktop integration into an existing Microsoft Windows infrastructure," said Jónas Sigurðsson, Development Manager at Gagnavarslan in Iceland. “Our group of developers in Kiev reverse engineered the existing WSS protocol to support Windows 7, Windows XP and the latest MS Office versions directly in Nuxeo EP. We support the open source paradigm and are happy to contribute our work back to the Nuxeo community."

Improve Constituent Services by Re-using Information Effectively

“In progress.” When it comes to government, we hear those words a lot. It’s no surprise: meeting the needs of a geographically large nation with diverse constituents is challenging. Change and progress require time…and patience.

Technology is one area where progress is evident. Change is afoot everywhere, from optimizing government websites for mobile devices, to coordinated healthcare services and discussions about creating a national dashboard to share meaningful information. The goals are familiar:

Employee Benefits, Grievances, and Termination: EDM and Workflow Help Manage HR

Life can be intense. Every day, employee dramas enter the workplace unsolicited. Some of the greatest workplace concerns we face as HR professionals, employees, and caring colleagues are making sure:

  • Health needs are met and costs are covered as anticipated.
  • Everyone is treated fairly by managers and co-workers, able to work without discrimination or harassment.
  • No one makes (or must endure) threats in the workplace, idle or real.

Intentional wrongdoing, inadvertent employee mishandling, shoddy record keeping, or a manager or worker with a hidden agenda can devastate company finances, reputation, and employee morale. Noncompliance penalties, unemployment insurance, time-consuming training programs, lower productivity, and other HR costs can pull strongly on the bottom line as a result. So what can you do to:

… help staff members comply with corporate policies?

… improve confidence, trust, and satisfaction with your HR department and company?

… discourage workers from wrongdoing and prevent acts of poor judgment?

… protect your organization and its workers from engaging in and getting away with---or experiencing---harassment, unjust treatment, false accusations of such activity, or other harm?

… guard your organization against false accusations?

The answer lies in timely, complete, accurate documentation…along with the ability to organize, associate, and handle information appropriately, consistently, and quickly when you need it. The challenge: gathering it from diverse places including your HR software, document repositories, payroll systems, email, voice messages, and more, and maximizing its use everywhere it has value.

Mailbag: Nuxeo EP and DM 5.3.2 released

This past weekend, I returned from a two week camping vacation in the mountains of Colorado. During those two weeks of little Internet connection...a lot of good content management stories came my way via email but were not posted here at CMS Report. I've decided to go through my mailbag this week and post some of the better stories that were missed in my absence.

A couple weeks ago, Stefane Fermigier sent us an email regarding the release of Nuxeo EP and DM 5.3.2, an ECM Platform and Document Management application. Stefane writes:

I'm very happy to announce that we have released Nuxeo EP and DM 5.3.2 today.

The release notes are here:

[Broken Link]

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this release, which I believe is the strongest we've done so far, and also the one that took the less effort to create thanks to the build and QA process we've put in place in the last year.

We have other new releases coming up in the following days: Nuxeo DAM 1.1 and Nuxeo CMF, and the next release of Nuxeo DM will be Nuxeo DM 5.4, scheduled around October this year.

Remember also that we have the Nuxeo World conference in November.
Meanwhile, I hope you will enjoy using Nuxeo DM 5.3.2. We've upgraded our intranet to use this version (over 5.3.1) in the final days of testing the new release, and I can tell you it is noticeably snappier and overall more pleasant to use than the 5.3.1.
