Matt Mullenweg posted on his blog a link for how to install and run a Wordpress blog on a Palm Pre. We're not talking how to manage your Wordpress site using your cell phone as a client. Instead, we're talking about running Wordpress with the Palm Pre as the Web server. That's pretty impressive.

In ten or twenty years from now why couldn't you host your blog or personal CMS on a portable device? Could what appears to be a gimmick today actually be the future for Web applications? I don't think it's that far fetch of an idea as many might think...

Wordpress users have been encouraged to update to to the latest version of Wordpress, currently at 2.8.4. It appears there is a nasty worm going around attacking Wordpress sites.

During the past year, I've posted various articles on social publishing systems. Open source content management systems such as Drupal, Movable Type, and WordPress have done a lot in the past year to better incorporate social media features into their web applications. I think the topic of social publishing will continue to be an interesting topic as the CMS continues to evolve in order to stay current with the current social tech trends.

The Blog Herald has posted an interesting piece on an unannounced change in WordPress 2.8. Basically, Wordpress no longer notifies other servers of your updated articles at the same time you post those articles.

Although I'm not a big BlackBerry fan, I can't help but think having the Open Source Wordpress for BlackBerry application on the device would be pretty cool. This application for writing, managing, and editing your blog works whether your blog is found at Wordpress.com or self-hosted.

BlackBerry operating system OS requirements are OS 4.2.1 or newer. In other words, Wordpress for BlackBerry should work on any of the newer BlackBerry smartphones including the 8700, Pearl, Curve, Bold, and Storm.

The BlackBerry application is currently in beta.

Some of the most intense debates I've seen in the open source community have been discussions covering what is or what isn't required by the popular open source license, the GNU GPL. For example, it is common practice in the open source CMS market to distribute themes that include the templates (the code) under the GPL and the artwork (including CSS) under a different license. Under the GPL, is this practice legal or not?

BuddyPress 1.0.1 was released yesterday. This point release fixes a number of security issues in the 1.0 version so it is a critical upgrade for everyone currently running BuddyPress. There is also a number of other bug fixes so please review the release history for more information.

WordPress 2.8, currently under development as a beta, is expected to be completed and released in a week or two. Until then, you can check out some of the documentation at wordpress.org to find all of the new goodies being added to this latest version of the blogging software.
